  • Ten Remarkable Years at ATCO Two Rivers Lodge

Supporting BC Hydro's Site C Clean Energy Project

The morning of April 1, 2026 started just like it had every day for nearly a decade. The coffee was brewed, the griddles warmed, and a hearty breakfast was served. Only this day was the last.

In a full‑circle moment, Ginger, the breakfast Cook who served the lodge’s very first guests in 2016 also prepared its final meal. Fitting, as the Two Rivers Lodge has always been about people, pride, and consistency.

With BC Hydro’s Site C Clean Energy Project now complete, the purpose‑built workforce housing camp in Fort St. John has fulfilled its role.  What remains is a legacy of service, community, and an incredible decade supporting one of Canada’s largest infrastructure projects.

    Built to Serve at Scale

ATCO Two Rivers Lodge opened its doors in 2016 to support the construction of the Site C Dam. Designed by ATCO Structures to deliver full‑service, hotel‑like accommodations in a remote northern environment, the lodge provided a safe, comfortable home away from home for thousands of workers over the course of the project.

For ten years, the lodge operated around the clock, adapting to the evolving needs of a massive construction site, and even a global pandemic. Throughout it all, they maintained the highest standards of hospitality, safety, and care.

The lodge was the first of its kind to achieve and maintain four different ISO certifications, including: ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management Systems); ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental management Systems); ISO 22000:2018 (Food Safety Management); and ISO 45001:2018 (Occupational Health & Safety Management).

    Powered by People

Hundreds of ATCO employees contributed to the success of Two Rivers Lodge: housekeepers, janitors, cooks, maintenance staff, security, administrators, leaders, and support teams who showed up day after day in all conditions.

Many team members were there from the beginning or spent years on site, building careers, friendships, and a culture rooted in care. Some became supervisors, mentors and leaders, while others moved on to lead the next ATCO Frontec project. Their commitment made it possible to operate safely and efficiently through workforce surges and the long arc of a complex project.

Feeding a Workforce, Fueling a Community

Food services were the heart of life at the lodge. With over 9.85 million meals served, safety and quality never wavered. More than 3,650 kitchen toolbox safety meetings were held, reinforcing daily commitments to food safety, teamwork, and excellence.

At peak operations, 60 kitchen and dining staff worked each day to keep up with demand.

The scale of food service at Two Rivers Lodge is perhaps best illustrated by 2023, its largest purchasing year that saw its largest single day delivery valued at over $136,000. One standout service featured a prime rib dinner served to hundreds of guests at a cost of $18,000—just one night in the life of a high‑volume camp kitchen.

Two Rivers Lodge was more than a work camp. For a decade it was part of the community of Fort St. John.

ATCO Frontec partnered with regional suppliers, and actively supported community initiatives, from donating unused food to the Salvation Army, to supporting local families at Christmas, to everyday choices that prioritized waste reduction and responsible operations.

Whether through employment, purchasing, or simple acts like donating recyclables—returning roughly $260 per day back to the community, the lodge worked to ensure its presence left a positive and lasting impact.

A Proud Farewell and Lasting Legacy

ATCO Frontec is proud to have supported BC Hydro’s Site C Clean Energy Project from first check‑in, to final checkout, creating a true home away from home for thousands of workers.

While the lodge’s doors may have closed, its legacy will be carried forward in the people who worked there, the community of workers it supported, and the expertise that will inform future projects.
