ATCO Frontec

Radar Systems & Infrastructure

Building, operating and maintaining critical radar systems

ATCO Frontec delivers the infrastructure, technical expertise and remote operating capabilities needed to support critical radar systems throughout their lifecycle.

From deploying new radar technologies to operating and maintaining established systems, we bring together the people, infrastructure, logistics and technical expertise needed to keep critical assets operational in some of the world’s most challenging environments.

Developing the next generation of radar capability

ATCO Frontec is helping advance Canadian radar capability, including Over-the-Horizon Radar (OTHR) systems supporting surveillance and domain awareness across Canada’s North.

North Warning System

Through our joint venture with Inuvialuit Development Corporation (IDC), and alongside Canadian technology partners including D-TA Systems, Technalogix and Valcom Consulting Group, we’re combining northern expertise, radar technology, infrastructure and logistics to deliver the Polar Over-the-Horizon project in the Arctic.

As prime contractor and integrator, Frontec brings these capabilities together to support radar systems from development and deployment through long-term operations and maintenance.

Decades of Arctic radar operations

ATCO Frontec was the first Canadian civilian company to operate the North Warning system in 1987. Since then, through our Inuit partnership Nasittuq Corporation, we bring decades of expertise operating and maintaining the North Warning System across 47 remote Arctic radar sites.

Our experience extends beyond the radar itself to the facilities, power systems, logistics and technical infrastructure needed to keep remote sites operational year-round.

ATCO Frontec also supports the Alaska Radar System through ARCTEC Alaska, our partnership with ASRC Federal. Building on a relationship dating to 1994, ARCTEC was recently awarded a new 10-year contract to continue operating and maintaining radar sites across Alaska.
