Operation NANOOK-NUNAKPUT

Rapid deployment in Canada’s High Arctic

  • Operation NANOOK-NUNAKPUT

    Snapshot

    Date: August - September 2026

    Client: Department of National Defence

    Location: Resolute Bay, Nunavut

Size: 30,000+ sq. ft. of infrastructure

Services: Accommodations, logistics, power, water, facility maintenance

    The Challenge

With just three weeks’ notice, ATCO Frontec was tasked with establishing a fully operational temporary military camp in Resolute Bay, Nunavut, to support Operation NANOOK-NUNAKPUT.

The camp needed to support up to 350 Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) personnel, with the infrastructure and essential services required to operate in a remote High Arctic environment.

In the North, careful planning is critical. Equipment and materials need to arrive when they are needed because replacements and additional supplies cannot be sourced locally. With an August 20 go-live date, there was little margin for delay or missing equipment.

    The Solution

ATCO Frontec managed the deployment from mobilization through camp operations and final demobilization.

Thirty airlift missions transported tents and equipment into Resolute Bay to establish the camp. The deployment included more than 30,000 square feet of infrastructure and 125 tonnes of materials, along with accommodations, power generation, water supply, logistics and essential life-support services.

Once operational, Frontec managed the camp through September 25, maintaining generators and utilities, managing water and wastewater systems, providing janitorial services and overseeing the site.

    Northern Experience at Work

ATCO Frontec brought decades of experience in Resolute Bay to the project. Its history in the community extends back 40 years and includes hotel operations and broader experience maintaining critical infrastructure across Canada's High Arctic.

That local knowledge, combined with team members who brought previous military experience, supported a rapid deployment where preparation and reliable execution were essential.

“The speed and complexity of this deployment underscores our team's expertise and commitment to supporting Canada's most important northern operations.”  - Jim Landon, President

    The Result

In 20 days, ATCO Frontec transformed a remote site into a temporary operational base capable of supporting 350 CAF personnel.

From airlift logistics and camp setup to ongoing operations, maintenance and demobilization, Frontec provided an end-to-end solution designed for the realities of operating in Canada's North.

“ATCO is my go-to organization… and one of the best lessons learned, because they don’t always have to be a negative, is that this camp is actually amazing."  - Maj. Lachance, Logistics Commander
