DND Ontario Facilities Management
Supporting those who protect us
We respect and value the dedication of the people who serve and protect our country. To support their great efforts, we provided site services that allowed them to focus on the important work they do.
In 2013, we were awarded a facilities and operations management contract with Defence Construction Canada (DCC), which provides construction contract management and related infrastructure services to the Department of National Defence (DND).
The O&M services we provided to 48 DND sites located in southwestern and northern Ontario, the Greater Toronto Area and Rouyn-Noranda in Québec, covered a gross total building area of 245,264 square metres.

Ability to meet challenges head on
One of the biggest challenges associated with this project was the variety and age of buildings and installed systems that must be maintained. We implemented a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to track building assets, asset conditions, preventative and corrective service and established tailored maintenance plans specific to each building. This resulted in a highly customized maintenance approach that ensures optimal asset performance for all buildings including several heritage facilities.
Delivering a breadth of services
We provided facilities maintenance services for a variety of buildings, mainly armouries, but also ranges and training areas, a family resource centre and the Canadian Forces College in Toronto. We were responsible for:
- Mechanical and electrical systems
- Interior and exterior building maintenance
- Equipment maintenance
- Roads and grounds
- Snow and ice control
- Pest control
- Fire detection and suppression systems
- Elevators
- Generators
- Waste management
- Environmental management
- Cleaning and housekeeping
- Document management
- Building safety
- Capital planning
- Range and training area control
