More Than a Camp: Supporting Life at Artemis Gold’s Blackwater Mine
What does it take to keep a remote mining operation running smoothly, day in and day out? At ATCO Frontec, we believe it starts with creating a home away from home.
That’s why we’re thrilled to be partnering with Lhoosk’uz Dené Nation and the Ulkatcho First Nation to provide camp services at Artemis Gold’s Blackwater Mine project in the heart of British Columbia. Our dedicated camp services team will be supporting the people behind the project, the ones who make it all happen.
We’ll be operating two camps—one for construction, and one for operations—housing over 550 workers at peak occupancy.

Creating comfort in remote places
Our role is to make sure that when the workday ends, comfort begins. That means:
- Hot meals and ready-to-go lunches, prepared daily, with menus tailored to meet the nutritional needs and tastes of a hardworking crew.
- Clean, welcoming spaces maintained by our housekeeping and janitorial teams.
- Friendly front desk staff, ready to help with anything from check in to check out.
- Well-stocked commissaries offering the essentials (and a few comforts from home).
Real value lies in the relationships we build, the communities we support, and the comfort we bring to those working far from home.
A Deep Commitment to Indigenous Engagement
One of the most meaningful aspects of this project is our collaboration with the Lhoosk’uz Dené Nation and the Ulkatcho First Nation, whose traditional territories surround the Blackwater Mine.
From the very beginning, we’ve worked to ensure this partnership is built on respect, inclusion, and shared opportunity. That includes:
- Hiring locally and offering training programs to build long-term careers.
- Partnering with Indigenous-owned businesses to support local economies.
- Maintaining open dialogue with community leaders to ensure our work aligns with their values and goals.
As of June 15, our team is on the ground, ready to bring their expertise, energy, and care to the Blackwater Mine. We know that when people feel supported, they do their best work—and that’s exactly what we aim to deliver.
Because at ATCO Frontec, we build community, comfort, and connection—no matter how remote the location.
